Professional exchange at Chulalongkorn and Assumption Universities

In order to prepare for the new library operation and update new knowledge for library development and participation in THE Impact Rankings, VGU Library and Strategy and Quality Assurance staff had extensive professional exchange and learning at Chulalongkorn University and the Library from 25-28 April, and a professional visit to Assumption University.

It is a very fruitful and valuable program for us to have the great expertise sharing for strategic management from Assoc. Prof. Amorn Petsom (the Library Director of Chulalongkorn University) and update new advances and changes for library automation and international standardization. It is what called unmanned library with the management of library and services by IoT without human power. We learn how to manage the library or organization with ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 for Quality and Environmental Management for Sustainability. These aspects are highly taken into account for service satisfaction of a university and a contribution of salient components of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) for THE Impact Rankings participation.

Nowadays, planning for sustainable development and energy conservation is inescapable and crucial for any HE institutions. Therefore, learning from Chula Library for how to operate Waste water treatment system to be used for tree watering and how to be a Green library to achieve cost effectiveness and saving for energy consumption is importantly useful for us to manage a 8,000 square meter library.

Besides that, the program brings us rewarding experience to learn from Chula Library teams with great services for their users (mobile technologies and research support), transparent services with complaint channels and corresponding channels for complaints, make Institutional Repository open and certified with Core Trust Seal, make Power indicator system for quality management, provide Chula users with high-tech multimedia production for teaching and learning, literature heritage preservation and archiving, and much more and more that we cannot count all.

Learning methodologies, criteria and experience for successful and getting high ranking for THE Impact Rankings from Chula is essential to us to have effective preparation for the ranking registration. Besides, from Assumption University, a model of Green University impresses us with a gorgeous and magnificent campus without smoking, and green and botanical campuses with forest-like covering. It is what in the strategy management of the University Leaders and the Office of Policy, Planning and Quality Assurance taken high priority.

VGU Library is in the process with Chula Library for signing MOU in terms of selected resource sharing, professional exchange and cooperation for sustainability development whereas we are preparing draft ideas for e-resource development cooperation and professional exchange with Assumption University Library.
