Building Tomorrow’s Libraries: Highlights from ICLISSP 2025

From August 20–22, 2025, the International Conference on Library, Information Science and Scholarly Publishing (ICLISSP 2025) took place at the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE), Quy Nhon, Vietnam. With the theme “Building Tomorrow’s Libraries: Global Perspectives on Academic Library Transformation and Scholarly Publishing,” the event served as a vibrant forum for exchanging ideas and shaping the future of libraries in the digital age.

The conference welcomed more than 150 delegates, including scientists, policymakers, research scholars, and graduate students from 11 countries and territories. The presence of many renowned keynote and invited speakers from Vietnam and abroad enriched the discussions and reinforced the global nature of the event including:

Alongside these keynote and invited talks, the conference also welcomed many international and Vietnamese experts who contributed through oral presentations. These sessions covered a wide spectrum of topics, including digital innovation and AI adoption in libraries, open educational resources, service quality and user satisfaction, adaptive leadership in academic libraries, innovative publishing models, and the digital transformation of library systems. The oral presentations provided rich insights and practical experiences, fostering lively exchanges among participants and deepening the dialogue on the future of library and information science.

ICLISSP 2025 featured a diverse program of keynote lectures, invited talks, workshops, and oral presentations. Key themes included:

  • Digital Innovation and AI Adoption: Transforming libraries into AI-driven knowledge hubs, ethical challenges of AI in scholarly communication, and applications of generative AI in library services.
  • Open Science and Scholarly Publishing: International integration of Vietnamese scientific journals, open educational resources (OER) initiatives, and new models of open access publishing.
  • Library Transformation and Leadership: Adaptive leadership, service quality, user satisfaction, and the evolving role of academic libraries in higher education.
  • Knowledge Infrastructure and Global Collaboration: Strategies for enhancing international research partnerships, inclusive cataloging, and equitable access to knowledge.

Specialized workshops addressed practical issues such as AI in action for library professionals and strategies to internationalize Vietnamese scholarly journals, offering hands-on insights for practitioners.

The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) Library was deeply honored to serve as a member of the Organizing Committee and Co-chair of the conference. Beyond its organizational role, VGU Library also made a strong academic contribution to the program with three oral presentations.

This meaningful participation demonstrates VGU Library’s commitment to fostering innovation, international collaboration, and sustainable development in the field of library and information science.
