Accepted Abstracts

In today’s fast-paced world, where attention spans are shorter than ever, delivering messages clearly, quickly, and creatively is essential. That’s exactly where PechaKucha shines — a unique and engaging presentation style that’s capturing attention worldwide.

What is PechaKucha?

PechaKucha is a presentation format that originated in Tokyo, Japan in 2003 by architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham. The core principle behind it was to “talk less, show more”. PechaKucha follows a simple but powerful rule: 20 slides, 20 seconds per slide. The slides advance automatically, giving the speaker exactly 6 minutes and 40 seconds to tell their story.

With no room for rambling or overloaded text, this format pushes presenters to be concise, thoughtful, and visually compelling.

Why is PechaKucha so appealing?

  • Short, but impactful: You only have a few minutes to make your point, so every word and image must count. This keeps presentations sharp, focused, and memorable.
  • Image-driven storytelling: Instead of word-heavy slides, PechaKucha relies on visuals. This helps engage the audience emotionally and makes ideas easier to grasp.
  • Energetic and smooth delivery: With slides moving automatically every 20 seconds, speakers must prepare well and speak with clarity and flow. It’s a great exercise in timing and confidence.
  • Great for any topic: Whether you’re sharing a creative idea, a personal journey, or a work project—PechaKucha is a flexible format that suits all kinds of content.

How to Create a PechaKucha Presentation

You’ve got 20 slides. That means 20 key moments. Think of them like chapters or milestones.

To set the slides to advance automatically, go to the Transitions tab on Powerpoint. Then, go to Advance Slides and check After. Now, set the timer for 20 seconds

🧩 Each slide should represent one clear thought, idea, or image.

Here’s the rule of thumb: images over text. PechaKucha is made to be visual. Go for full-screen photos, illustrations, or even your own drawings. Avoid bullet points or long sentences—they’ll only distract from your storytelling.

🎨 Use free image sites like Unsplash or Pexels if you’re stuck!

Now that you know what each slide is about, write down what you want to say for each one. Aim for around 40–50 words per slide—enough to fill 20 seconds when spoken out loud.

Speak naturally. You don’t need to sound robotic or rehearsed. Think of it as a conversation with your audience, not a lecture.

🗣️ Practice speaking in your own voice, like you’re telling a friend a story.

This is the most important step. Open a timer app, or even better, use presentation software like PowerPoint or Keynote with slide timings set to 20 seconds. Practice your full presentation several times until the rhythm feels natural.

⏱️ You’ll probably mess up the first few times. That’s okay! PechaKucha is about flow, not perfection.

Unlike regular presentations, in PechaKucha, you don’t control the slides—they move on their own. That can be scary at first. But with good practice, it becomes liberating. You learn to trust your timing and let your story unfold slide by slide.

🧘 Remember: if you fall behind or get ahead, just keep going. Your audience won’t mind as long as you stay connected.

PechaKucha may be simple—but it’s powerful. It teaches you how to communicate better, respect your audience’s time, and tell a story with impact.

You’ve got just 6 minutes and 40 seconds.
Make them count.
